Lecture on Modern Armenian architecture

YP Cologne Kicks Off becomes 7th YP Group in Europe

Over 200 people attended YP Cologne’s inaugural event on May 31, 2008.
The event was attended by a number of individuals from AGBU’s European office in Paris, France, including AGBU Europe President Alexis Govciyan.

YP Cologne becomes the 23rd global YP group and the seventh in Europe.

The AGBU-Sofia Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Bedros Papazyan, has dedicated a concert to the 100th anniversary of Marin Golemino, a great Bulgarian classic and 93rd years since the Armenian Genocide on April 20 at the National Music Academy of Sofia. Being a former pupil of Marin Goleminov, Mr. Papazyan gave his teacher’s due by including in the concert’s program parts from one of the most popular and beloved Goleminov works the “Five sketches” for a string orchestra.

The AGBU entered into a partnership with the HAIK organization (www.haiknet.de) and established an office in Frankfurt, Germany where the Armenian presence is so important related to Turkish influence in Germany.

AGBU President Berge Setrakian visit in Armenia

AGBU chapters in the French cities of Paris, Marseille, Valence and Lyon, in cooperation with the Tchobanian Institute, organized a lecture tour entitled “The Foundations for Armenian Security and Means to Ensure It.” The Tchobanian Institute is an independent research center devoted to strategic studies in the South Caucasus, Asia Minor and the Middle East. The Alex Manoogian Cultural Center in Paris hosted the AGBU France scholarship recipients for a March 29 reception attended by fifty persons. Members of the AGBU Europe District Committee, in Paris for their first meeting, joined the reception and had the opportunity to meet several members of the AGBU France and Paris Committees as well as representatives of AGBU Youth and YP Paris (young professionals). On July 7-13, Armenian athletes from all over the globe will gather in Montevideo, Uruguay for the XVIII AGBU World Games. Since Beirut first hosted the event in 1955, the AGBU World Games continue to bring thousands of Armenian youth together to engage in sporting and camaraderie on an international level. Past host cities have included Buenos Aires, Sydney, Paris and Los Angeles.

10th anniversary of the Gyumri Art Academy

art-academy.jpgThe Gyumri Art Academy celebrated recently the 10th anniversary of its establishment reconstructed by Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, Armenian General Benevolent Union and the funds provided by the people during Loris Tjeknavorian’s 1991 pilgrimage to Gyumri.

This educational center, which started with less than 10 students 10 years ago, today has 192 future specialists in its six departments. Some of them have already gained popularity. An exhibition of the students’ works kicked off in the halls of the Gyumri branch on the day of the celebration.

The Central Board of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), the world’s largest non-profit Armenian organization, has established a European entity, named the Europe District Committee, chaired by Alexis Govciyan for coordinating and developing the Pan-European activities of the various Chapters in Europe. On February 1-3, 2008, AGBU convened its Pan-European conference in Brussels, Belgium.
